Seahawks fans, Byron Murphy II respond to NFL’s disrespectful DROY list

Athleticism and natural talent can only take you so far. Once you have actually reached this level the true stars are separated from the herd by how badly they want to be the best at what they do. It sounds like the Seahawks got the right guy in that department when they picked Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft.

Murphy hasn’t even played a single game yet and he already has a chip on his shoulder. Over the weekend the NFL’s official Twitter account shared a list of possible Defensive Rookie of the Year candidates. Murphy was not included and he took the time to point out the perceived disrespect.

This is the same energy that last year’s first pick – cornerback Devon Witherspoon shared when he finished fourth in the 2023 Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. You could also make a case that cornerback Riq Woolen should have won the award over Sauce Gardner the previous year.

As some fans have pointed out, there’s a pattern here. The east coast media bias really is a thing and even the greatest Seahawks players of all time have been underappreciated over the years. Here’s how fans are responding to Murphy and the NFL.
